The Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act at 50

The Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act (FSIA) turns 50 this year. To celebrate the anniversary, the George Washington Law Review is hosting a symposium about the FSIA on October 8-9. The event is free, and those interested in attending are encouraged to register here.

The event kicks off at 4:00 on Thursday, October 8, with an Experts Panel in the Burns Moot Court Room, featuring practitioners who were involved in drafting the FSIA, who have litigated under the FSIA, and who have worked on FSIA issues at the State Department. Bill Dodge will moderate a conversation with Judge Charles Brower, Mark Feldman, John Bellinger, Mary Catherine Malin, David Bowker, and Robert Kry.

The symposium continues on Friday, October 9 at Jack Morton Auditorium. The first panel, from 9:45-12, will be moderated by Sally Pei and will focus on exceptions to immunity, with presentations by Ingrid Brunk, Bill Dodge, Maryam Jamshidi, and David Stewart. From 1:30-2:30, Sir Michael Wood will deliver the Brand-Manatt Lecture, discussing foreign official immunity. And from 2:30-4:00 there will be a second panel, moderated by Laura Dickinson, with presentations by Brad Clark, Chimène Keitner, and Ed Swaine addressing the FSIA in context.
